Vartan’s artistic journey is a fusion of meticulous craftsmanship, cultural heritage, and profound emotional depth. His paintings emerge from a solid foundation of artistic education, including his formative years at the Terlemezian Art School and postgraduate studies at the Fine Arts and Theatre Institute of Yerevan. This rich background manifests in a masterful understanding of form, texture, and narrative, cultivated through decades of dedicated practice.

While renowned for his monumental metalwork, Vartan has recently focused on more intimate artistic expressions through painting and smaller creations. These works reflect a transition, embodying the same meticulous attention to detail that defines his larger sculptures. “Right now, my energy goes into painting and building small things for people,” Vartan remarks, signaling the significance of these endeavors within his creative evolution.

Though Vartan views blacksmithing as his “real work,” his paintings are far from secondary. Each piece is a thoughtful exploration of his artistic vision, often infused with the weight of his cultural identity and personal experiences. They carry the same intensity and emotional resonance as his monumental works, offering a deeply personal glimpse into his evolving sensibilities.

This phase represents a vital chapter in Vartan’s artistic legacy, bridging his mastery of metalwork with a more introspective form of creativity. Through his paintings, he invites viewers into a quieter, more intimate space, underscoring the breadth of his artistry and the enduring impact of his heritage.
