The National Collage Society's Annual Small Format Exhibit is a celebration of creativity in miniature, showcasing the power of collage as a fine art medium. This unique exhibition features postcard-sized collages, each measuring exactly 4" x 6", created by NCS members from across the United States and around the world. Collage, an art form that has only been recognized and defined as fine art during the 20th century, offers artists unparalleled opportunities to create concepts and designs with a sense of texture that simply isn't possible through other mediums. The National Collage Society, founded in 1982, has been at the forefront of advancing collage as a significant art medium and educating the public through exhibits, workshops, lectures, and publications. The Small Format Exhibit, now in its 26th year, is a unique showcase that gives every participating NCS member a guaranteed opportunity to display their work. Unlike the highly competitive Annual Juried Exhibit, where only about 50% of entries are accepted, the Small Format Exhibit welcomes all entries from members, ensuring 100% acceptance. This democratic approach to exhibition not only provides a platform for established artists but also encourages emerging talents to showcase their work alongside their peers. The size constraint of 4" x 6" presents both a challenge and an opportunity for artists to distill their creative vision into a compact format, where every element must be carefully considered. As visitors explore the exhibit, they will encounter a diverse array of collages that demonstrate the versatility and expressive potential of this often understated yet highly rewarding art form. From vintage-inspired pieces to contemporary compositions, each small-format collage offers a window into the artist's unique perspective and creative process. |
