The Sasse: Where love stories develop
between art and viewer

"The artist must have something to say, for mastery over form is not his goal but rather the adapting of form to its inner meaning." — Wassily Kandinsky

Something is asked of you here, though nothing is required.

The work in this exhibition was made by artists from different heritages and different lives. What they share is not a tradition, not a belief system, not a single name for what they are reaching toward. What they share is a willingness to leave the door open.

The sacred, as it appears in this exhibition, is what rises, sometimes, between a work of art and the person standing in front of it, when both are honest enough to allow it. It is not a doctrine and not a destination. It belongs to no one faith, though every faith has reached for it.

This takes time. The sacred does not arrive on a schedule. It does not announce itself. It is easy to walk past, and most of us do, most of the time. The work gathered here was made by people who stopped, who looked, and who waited for something to come through — and who trusted what arrived, even when they could not name it.

The work is waiting now for you.

You do not need to bring anything. You do not need to know what you are looking for. You only need to stop long enough for the work to notice you have stopped. What happens after that is not something the artist can decide, and not something the museum can prescribe. It belongs to the conversation between you and the work, and to whatever passes through that conversation when the room goes quiet.

This is where love stories begin. We hope you will come and let one find you.
