The Nature of Things

"Nature is not only all that is visible to the eye... it also includes the inner pictures of the soul." — Edvard Munch

What draws us to the natural world? Is it the way light moves across a hillside, the architecture of a leaf, the pulse of seasons? In this exhibition, artists explore nature through landscape and botanical, realistic detail and abstract impression. Each work is an invitation to pause and see.

Edvard Munch's words remind us that nature exists in two realms simultaneously: in the tangible world around us and in the invisible world within us. Every artist in this exhibition navigates between these two territories, creating works that are both witnesses to nature's presence and testaments to the human soul's capacity to be transformed by it.

The paintings, sculptures, photographs, and installations you will encounter represent not just what artists see, but how they feel, remember, and reimagine the natural world. Some works capture specific places and plants with careful attention to detail. Others distill nature to its essence through gesture, color, and energy. Landscapes sit alongside botanicals. Realistic observation meets abstract impression. Each approach creates an opening: a moment where you might notice something familiar in a new way, or find yourself drawn to forms that speak without words.

When you visit, notice what calls to you, what draws you back for a second look. The dialog between you and these works is entirely yours to discover.

At the Sasse, we believe love stories develop between art and viewer. This is your invitation to spend time with nature as these artists have seen it, and as you choose to meet it.
